The Museum of Typography will participate in the annual Conference of the Association of European Printing Museums, 2-3 October 2015, at the Tipoteca Italiana, Cornuda, Italy. The theme of the conference is “The relevance of typographical collections for today’s designers”.

The unique in Greece "Museum of Typography", in Chania/Crete, with great pleasure invites for a second year those who have artistic flair, talent, inspiration and imagination, to participate in the 2nd international poster contest, launched officially today, Friday, May 22, 2015.

This year's theme is linked directly to a special anniversary of the "Museum of Typography", it's ten years anniversary, since its first opening to the public in May 2005.

The Museum thus invites professionals, students and amateurs of graphics and visual arts, but also people with innovative ideas that can turn them into a poster, to send their creations to the contest "10 years Museum of Typography".

The top three posters will take the central part of an exhibition that will be presented in July, in the auditorium of the "Museum of Typography" and their creators will receive important prizes:

• 1.000 euro the first winner
• 700 euros the second winner
• 500 euros the third winner
At this exhibition, which will be inaugurated on Sunday, July 12, 2015, thirty distinguished works will be presented and their creators will receive honorary distinctions.

The jury of the contest consists of:

Participation terms:

1) Anyone interested in participating to the contest should send their work until Monday, June 22, 2015 to the email: typography.poster@gmail.com. It should be accompanied by the following information: name and surname, place of residence and contact information (phone and email) and - optionally - a brief description of the project (up to 100 words). The name of both files should be the name and surname of the contestants in Latin characters.

2) The poster should be created with the view of being used in various applications of the Museum (publication cover, poster, postal card, banner, etc). The dimensions must be 50x70 cm. PDF, CMYK, images at 200 ppi and not exceed 25 Mb. Otherwise it should be sent by we transfer or other similar service.

3) The contest is open to anyone wishing to take part with a single (1) project. Employees of “Haniotika Nea SA” and "Museum of Typography" are excluded from the contest.

4) Selection criteria for the winning creations will be the originality and the transmission directness of the message.

5) The subject of the poster must be for the anniversary "10 years Typography Museum", with no other restriction. Those interested can find the Museum logo at www.typography-museum.gr/logos.pdf

6) Contest results will be announced during the inauguration of the exhibition on 12 July 2015, an event with many surprises, that will be held in the auditorium of the "Museum of Typography". The winners will be informed in due time, in order to attend the event. Regarding intellectual property rights:

1. Creators of the thirty projects that will be rewarded or receive honorary distinction declare that they do not maintain any intellectual property rights on the creations that they will deliver.

2. The works will not be returned.

3. The “Museum of Typography” may reuse without damage the entire work submitted by the thirty creators mentioned above or part of it, freely for any purpose and in any way, unchanged or modified at its own discretion.

4. Participation in the contest automatically implies the acceptance of terms of the present notice of contest.

Participants in the contest, graphic designers, artists, students, professionals and anyone wishing – regardless of occupation - to participate, may submit up to two (2) proposals. Employees of “Haniotika nea S.A.” are excluded from the contest.
3) Selection criteria for the winning creations will be the originality and the transmission directness of the message.
4) The subject of the poster must be related to Typography, tools used, its history and anything relevant to Typography along the centuries. The work must be original and particular, with no other restriction in the subject. Direct or indirect reference to the Museum of Typography is desirable, but not required.
5) The poster should be created with the view of being used in various applications of the Museum (publication cover, poster, postal card, banner, etc). Dimensions of the work must be 50x70 cm and there in no restriction regarding the materials, the form, the colours or the technique used by each candidate. Dimensions of the works submitted in electronic form should be 200dpi CMYK or Greyscale.
6)Contest results will be announced on July 25th, 2014 by the newspaper “Haniotika Nea”, the website of the Museum of Typography www.typography-museum.gr and the website of the newspaper “Haniotika Nea” www.haniotika-nea.gr.
7) Regarding intellectual property rights:
a. Creators of the twenty works who will receive honorary distinction - besides the first three awards - assign, cede and transfer to the Museum of Typography their intellectual property rights on their works and any potentional application or use of their ideas (branding, trademarks, etc), that will constitute from now on property of the Museum of Typography, which will be able to dispose of and use them at its own discretion The sum of one hundred euros (100 €) will be offered for every work, that has received honorary distinction, only if it is used for commercial purposes of the Museum - apart from the first three already rewarded with money award.
b. Furthermore, the abovementioned creators declare that they do not maintain any intellectual property rights on the creations that they will deliver.
c. The works submitted for the scope of the said contest, will not be returned.
d. The Museum of Typography may reuse without damage the entire work submitted by any creator mentioned above (article 7 paragraph a) or part of it, freely for any purpose and in any way, unchanged or modified at its own discretion.
e. The participant creator(s) undertake(s) to send to the Museum of Typography an “open” file of the poster creation, in order to be used by the “Museum of Typography” for any other application, joined by the creator’s / creators’ waiver of every right and claim on future applications of its creation.
f. Participation in the contest automatically implies the acceptance of terms of the present notice of contest.

As the greek word “τυπογραφία” means both typography and printing, this year's theme is about their past, present and future. The theme of the contest is: “Typography & Printing: past, present and future”.

The top three posters will take the central part of an exhibition that will be presented in the auditorium of the "Museum of Typography" and their creators will receive important prizes:

Το Μουσείο Τυπογραφίας υποψήφιο για Ευρωπαϊκό Μουσείο της Χρονιάς

The Museum of Typography has the honour to announce its nomination for the distinguished European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) 2016, an award presented each year by the European Museum Forum (EMF) under the auspices of the Council of Europe.

This nomination is awarded to the museums which entered the competition and which met the high and exacting standards of the judging panel.

The final results will be announced at the EMYA 2016 conference and ceremony, which will be held in Tolosa and San Sebastian, Spain 6 – 9 April 2016.

The two days of the conference are taken up with the museums giving presentations about themselves and talking publicly about their museums and their achievements.
